French Primary School in Singapore

At Swiss School in Singapore (SSiS), we welcome children who turn six or seven before 31 August of the current school year. Our French-language Primary School programme follows the Plan d’Études Romand (PER), the official curriculum for the French-speaking region of Switzerland. Primary 1 and 2 correspond to 3H and 4H in the Swiss education system.

French Language and Literacy

French is the main language of instruction, with a strong focus on developing reading, writing, speaking and comprehension skills. Students build a solid foundation in handwriting and French literacy while developing a love of literature through library visits, French book lending and author visits.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students develop their understanding of numbers, operations, space, quantities and measurements. They also learn research, reasoning and problem-solving strategies that support independent and logical thinking.

English and Science

English is an integral part of the weekly timetable, with two English lessons and one Science lesson taught in English by native English-speaking teachers. Lessons take place in half groups and combine practical Science activities with English language learning.

Holistic Learning and Activities

Our holistic Swiss Primary School education includes music, arts and crafts, artistic design, sports and swimming. The annual Project Week brings students together in mixed-age groups, encouraging creativity, collaboration and learning through real-world projects.

Assessment and Parent Communication

Students’ progress is monitored throughout the school year. In Primary 1, students receive a final school report without marks, complemented by a parent-teacher discussion. In Primary 2, families receive an interim report after the first semester and a final report at the end of the school year, alongside an annual parent-teacher discussion.
