Primary 3 & 4
Growing Knowledge, Confidence and Independence
Primary 3 and Primary 4 build on the strong foundations established in the first years of primary school. Children who turn eight or nine before 31 August are eligible to join Primary 3 or 4.
Our language of instruction is German, following the curriculum of the Canton of Zug. At this stage, students deepen their academic knowledge while becoming increasingly independent, developing the skills and confidence to take greater responsibility for their learning.
German and Mathematics
In German, students continue to develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills using Die Sprachstarken. The programme supports children in expanding their vocabulary, strengthening their language skills and expressing themselves confidently.
Mathematics is taught using Das Zahlenbuch, helping students build a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts through structured learning, problem-solving and practical application.
English and Science
English becomes an increasingly important part of the weekly timetable. Students have three English lessons and two Science lessons taught in English each week by our native English-speaking teachers.
Science explores topics from Mensch und Mitwelt through a hands-on, inquiry-based approach. This allows children to investigate the world around them while developing scientific knowledge and expanding their English vocabulary in a meaningful context.
Both English and Science lessons are taught in half-class groups, creating more opportunities for interaction, participation and individual support.
A Holistic Learning Experience
At Swiss School in Singapore, we believe that a well-rounded education goes beyond academic subjects. Our holistic primary school programme includes:
- Music
- Arts and crafts
- Artistic design
- Sports and physical education
- Experiential and project-based learning
One of the highlights of Primary 3 and 4 is our annual class camp in Malaysia. These shared experiences encourage children to step outside their usual environment, strengthen relationships with their classmates and develop independence, teamwork and confidence.
Assessment and Communication
Students receive an interim report after the first semester and a final school report with grades for all subjects at the end of the school year.
Regular communication with families is an important part of our approach. Parents are invited to one individual parent meeting each school year to discuss their child’s academic progress, development and learning journey.
