Kindergarten 1 & 2
A Strong Start to School Life
At Swiss School in Singapore, children from the age of four begin Kindergarten 1 (K1), followed by Kindergarten 2 (K2) in the subsequent year. Within the Swiss education system, Kindergarten 1 corresponds to the first year of the primary school cycle. Together, K1 and K2 provide a strong foundation and prepare children for a successful transition to Grade 1.
Our German-language Kindergarten programme combines structured learning with plenty of opportunities for play, exploration and discovery. Children gradually develop the independence, confidence and routines they need for school life in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
German and English Language Learning
Kindergarten is taught primarily in German, providing children with an immersive environment in which they can develop their German language skills naturally and confidently. In Kindergarten, the children use the textbook Die kleinen Sprachstarken for their German class.
At the same time, English is integrated throughout both Kindergarten years with five lessons per week. Our approach recognises that children have different language backgrounds and levels of English proficiency, which is why we provide additional English support according to individual needs.
This combination of German and English language learning gives children a strong foundation for multilingual education and prepares them for an increasingly international world.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
A rich variety of activities is part of everyday life in Kindergarten. Alongside classroom learning, children enjoy:
- Weekly swimming lessons
- Early music education
- Exploring and using our library
- Weekly sports lessons
- Outdoor play and regular playground time
Throughout the year, children also take part in special events and experiences that bring learning and our international school community to life. Highlights include Deepavali, our Advent event, Chinese New Year celebrations, project weeks with Grade 1 and 2, Sports and Play Day, and our Summer Night event.

Flexible Afternoon Options
Kindergarten students can extend their school day through our Full Day Offer (FDO) and a range of extracurricular activities, available Monday to Friday from 1:45 pm to 3:20 pm.
Our Full Day Offer follows a language-based weekly schedule:
- Monday & Friday: English
- Tuesday–Thursday: German
The language package is fixed by day, so a daily choice between English and German is not available.
Children participating in an afternoon programme can also make use of our supervised lunch service, providing a relaxed and social mealtime before the afternoon activities begin.
