Primary 1 & 2
Our Primary Section is divided into the German Stream and the French Stream, with plenty of opportunities for the classes to interact with each other. Our language of instruction for the German Stream is German following the Curriculum of the Canton of Zug, and the language of instruction for the French Stream is French.
Two English lessons and one Science lesson in English are also an integral part of our weekly timetable delivered by native English speaking teachers. The Science lesson discusses and deals with themes from the area of Mensch und Umwelt in a hands-on based approach and hence supports English language acquisition. All English and Science lessons take place in half-class groups.
In Primary 1, pupils learn German/French writing and reading with the aid of the teaching material Tobi-Fiebel. The Buchstabenfest, at the end of the school year, gives the children a good opportunity to show what they have learned. During Primary 2, we work with the teaching material Die Sprachstarken. The acquired knowledge and skills in the fields of reading, writing, listening and speaking are further deepened and expanded. One of our highlights is the traditional Reading Night (Lesenacht).
In mathematics, we use the teaching material Das Zahlenbuch. During Primary 1, we focus on the number range from 0 to 20; this is expanded from 0 to 100 in Primary 2.
Primary 1 commences the portfolio work which will be continued through all grades up to and including Primary 6. The children learn how they can tackle projects themselves and will, incrementally, take over their responsibility for their own learning.
We offer a holistic educational program this includes music, arts and crafts, artistic design and sports. Additionally, our annual Project Week, which is held in age-mixed groups, culminates our versatile and creative learning programmes that we offer.
In Primary 1, students receive a final school report without marks at the end of the school year. There is a parents’ talk to inform the parents about the children’s learning status. In Primary 2, an interim report is given out after the first semester and a final school report is handed over at the end of the school year. Marks are given for the subjects German, Mathematics and Mensch und Umwelt. Additionally, there is one parent talk per school year.
