Children from three to five years of age attend our mixed-aged Playgroup classes. Each of these classes has between 12 and 18 children and is led by two English-speaking teachers. Playful learning is the focus whether individually, in small groups or in a whole class setting. We adopt a theme-based approach that supports the children to perceive and get to know themselves, their own body and their surroundings and to develop self-awareness and self-confidence.
The teaching language in our Playgroup classes is mainly English. A German-speaking teacher works with the children in the morning during four lessons a week. All children have bilingual activities and singing. Children whose mother tongue isn’t German, actively receive special support in small groups or individually. The teaching language changes to German when the children start with Kindergarten. However, English is still part of the Curriculum.
Sports, music, sand play, German and swimming lessons are an integral part of the curriculum. Regular classes are from 8.30 am to 12.50 pm.
For the Playgroup I students we provide an optimal and optional Full Day Offer from Monday to Friday, 8.30am until 3.20pm, which includes rest and relaxation time. Children bring their lunch from home. Parents can chose between two options: Five full days or three full days according to their preference.
Playgroup II children (french section see primary school/kindergarten I) can profit of the optimal and optional Full Day Offer on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8.30am until 3.20pm. Attendance on all three days is mandatory. This programme is taught in German or French as preparation for Kindergarten and runs in addition to the regular lessons from 1.45 until 3.20pm. In combination with our Extra Curricular Activities students may stay at school for five days per week from 8.30am until 3.20pm. Pupils can use our Lunch Service, which is supervised by SSiS teachers/staff, if they participate in an afternoon activity.
